| Maps On Our Skins, Parte Un. |
[Mar. 13th, 2009|01:59 pm] |
So, if you don't know by now, yuki_onna is a *fantabulous* storyteller.
I love her stories, especially the ones printed as The Orphan's Tales : In the Night Garden & In the Cities of Coin and Spice, but a copy of her newest book, Palimpsest, was given to me as a gift recently.
It's awesome. I started it last night, and I'm already halfway through, and I want to visit Palimpsest so badly I can taste it, the urge thrumming my muscles, the sounds just on the edge of hearing. Sadly, I'll just have to settle for the Palimpsest launch event at Mac's Backs on Coventry on March 16, 2009, @ 8 PM. I'll be getting to meet shadesong for the first time, and get to hear s00j/SJ Tucker for the first time. How wonderful - an evening of words and art and music and song and books and food and love!
But, perhaps most important, I get to henna maps. What follows are two of the four planned interlocking maps of Palimpsest that we will bear on our skins, our passport stamps, our Foder's Guide to the magic world.

| Hello, my new friends! |
[Oct. 28th, 2008|10:49 am] |
Bonjour, mes amis!
If you're a new addition to my f-list, or if you just want a refresher, welcome to a welcome post.
I am, in no particular order, a henna artist, a bellydancer, an Anthropology student, a life partner, a box office ticket agent, a reader, a dog owner, and a pretty decent person. While I'm at it, I'm also bisexual, polyamorous, kinky, half-Luddite, leftist, agnostic, a recycler, and a big fan of good times.
I do use OKCupid sporadically, and you may have found me over there already.
I have a few filters; Anthropology Today, my college filter, a Party! filter for scheduling and Firebowl Fridays, and my Sex & Bondage filter, which has secondary (mostly picture-based) filters, my Dance filter, and coming soon a Wibble filter for my maudlin ramblings. If you'd like to be included in any of these filters, speak now... or message me later. Of course, I reserve the right to deny you pictures of me en deshabille.
By the by, Jeremy posted a few pictures from the Goodbye C&D Party this past weekend.
It's very nice to meet/have met you all, and have fun with the linkage! |

| Funnies and Father's Day |
[Jun. 4th, 2008|01:51 pm] |
So, a few years ago, we went to the annual Edgewater Park powwow for Father's day, and I'm considering it again this year, my dad and fam, and Jer's dad and his wife. Should be pretty cool, seeing as how last time, we not only saw dancing from several different Native North American groups but an Aztecan group performed as well. Hella-fun time! http://www.aiecc.net/powwow.htm
 see more politics and fun!
Today's favorite HOB-TV music video is: Actually, I don't have one. All the videos today suck. Instead, I present to you the theme song to The Big Bang Theory, by Barenaked Ladies. Since (in their usual style) the lyrics are damn near impossible, a bunch of fan-made videos have hit YouTube with lyric subtitles (which is awesome!) This fan video has the correct lyrics:
(The story of Moses is not in Deuteronomy, but in Exodus, and that's only the beginning of the visual mistakes.)
But this one has much better, more accurate illustrations of the concepts inherent in the lyrics, which are unfortunately incorrect in the subtitles:

| Lakewood Art Walk, Saturday May 17, 2008 |
[May. 16th, 2008|02:46 pm] |
I'll be dancing with Sirens (i.e. habari and shiva_the_diva's side project) this Saturday for the Lakewood Art Walk. We'll be dancing on and off from 7 pm to 9 pm, at Omega Cuts, located at 11833 Franklin Ave., the corner of Newman and Franklin. Drop me a comment if you need more explict directions. It should be interesting; it'll be the three of us plus another bellydance and a poi-spinner/dancer. We'll be switching off between improv group pieces, solos, and routines, so it'll be a good mix of styles. Come on by, we need the audience! Afters, Jer and I will be heading to the Get Formal! party that my sister's hosting at the Lava Lounge that night.
In unrelated yet very interesting news, stevedietgoedde documents the reconstruction of Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman suit for Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy exhibition at the Fashion Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City |

| Happy Tuesday! |
[Apr. 1st, 2008|10:16 am] |
I'm not a real big fan of April Fool's Day. While I do love a good prank, I think the prankiness is exponentially greater when NOT performed on April 1. That being said, none of the following are pranks. It's just my usual too-cool-not-to-share linky goodness.
My favorite video on HOB-TV today is Beastie Boys' "Sabotage". C'mon, who doesn't love cheezy 70's cop show parodies?
I gotta say, I would totally get the ghetto blaster one - Top 5 Weirdest Cell Phones Ever.
Oh wow, who could have thought salvaged plastic and empty mustard packets would make a ballgown even Cinderella would envy? Artist Jamie Kuli McIntosh did, and documented her process.
Masonic Pranky Goodness - these are full-page scans from the 1930 DeMoulin Bros. & Co. Fraternal Supply Catalog, which illustrates tons of pranks to use on new recruits. Most are fantastically elaborate and would never work in today's society. Tons of fun to look through, though.
http://www.instituteofthefuture.org/boxmaker/ - Dude, *so* cool! I could make a box that fits ANYTHING! From the site : "BoxMaker is a little Java application that can generate the outlines for a box to be cut out of some material with a cutting device (ideally using wood/acrylic on a lasercutter!)." *sigh* If only I was more tech-savvy, and owned a laser.
I know that $35 USD is an awful lot of money to spend on a hair-holding-device, but it's absolutely beautiful, hand-carved and -finished, would be used nearly every day, and supporting ART. How much better can you get? Who wants to spend $30 + shipping on making me happy?
Speaking of making me happy, I heart Tommy's on Coventry, and I have ever since I was tiny - great food, great people, great socially constructive policies, and now a really really great webpage!
*chortle* MAKE magazine celebrates April's Fool Day in its own special way: a collection of DIY, geeky, and tech pranks. |

All righty, my lymph glands are swollen, my throat is itchy, and my sinuses are leaking down the back of my throat. But that won't prevent me from enjoying the Interwebs today!

If you ever wondered how much dogs pay attention to humans, the answer is: a lot. This dog has learned to pray, and maybe he'll start meditating soon. Personally, I'm waiting for him to learn how to chant.

Dude, so cool : I've always wanted to grow a plant in my pocket. Well, maybe not always, just since reading this post.
~@*@~
Not being religious, I'm often annoyed at major focus on a religious holiday being plastered all over the sites I visit on a daily or near-daily basis. Occasionally, though, that focus does turn up something totally amazing, like this; Franc Grom creates some of the most beautiful Easter Eggs ever.
~@*@~
Dammit, I wish I could crochet better: Dread Crocheted Cthulu!
~@*@~
It's nice to know that Randy Milholland loves Neil Gaiman more than I do... I'd never eat his children. I hate children... they're so stringy.
~@*@~
C'mon, who wants to ride in the Darth Vader hot-air balloon with me? Any takers?

Badgerbadgerbadgermushroommushroombadgerbadgerbadgerbadger.... (I know it's old, but I love it. Shut up.)

I knew it. In fact, I'd probably survive longer than that.
Your Score: Category 3You have a 78% chance of Survival! You could very well make it out alive, you might not enjoy the expirence, but you would learn from it. You atleast have your head on your shoulders, and thats a good thing.

If you're having a bad day, this will definitely lift your mood. I can't watch this without laughing and singing along. (Warning: contains R.E.M. and Sesame Street monsters.) I present to you.... "Furry Happy Monsters"!

| How my college choices affect my brain. |
[Feb. 28th, 2008|09:20 am] |
Since I can't post about what I want to post about, because of being at work...
The simple fact that I have to think in French nearly 50% of my college life has really affected me. In bad ways, maybe. Wheeeeeeeeeee, French rap! *hee hee*

| Blargh, leave me alone. |
[Feb. 26th, 2008|02:37 pm] |
I swear, if one more person asks me if the show is still happening, I will beat them over the head with my phone handset.
We are HOUSE OF BLUES, people, we ALWAYS go on. The last show we cancelled was a year ago, and that was because we had a foot of standing water in the Music Hall. A mere snowstorm isn't enough to slow us down, our business is music.
In order to distract myself from my rising rage, I present to you...
Modern (maybe?) Fusion Ballroom Dance to the Transformers' theme!
Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! Breaking brains across the country, I love it! |

I heart National Geographic. They've amazed me for my entire life, and I'm sure they will continue to do so for the rest of my life. The stuff that National Geographic has shown me.... wow.
Speaking of, check out this really cool sea organ. (Work-safe video, with sound.) |

[Nov. 3rd, 2007|07:32 pm] |
I *was* in a good mood.
Every single thing on the surface of this planet can suck on my butthole and like it.
In order to cheer myself up, I'm planning to build my own army of Daleks and take over the world. |
